Their solution is to ban books they do not like from the shelves of school and public libraries. Not only does this maneuver interfere with freedom of speech, protected under the First Amendment to the Constitution. It also exposes irrational hate that, if not checked, will destroy the American experiment with Constitutional government.

In recent years, extreme right-wing groups like Moms for Liberty gained prominence by determining some books unsuitable for American students. However, a troubling undercurrent within this movement exemplified by Jen Pippin, Chair of Moms for Liberty in Indian River County, Florida arose. Her association with a notorious antisemite, Rick Wiles, the leader of TruNews, demands condemnation.

The First Amendment and the Establishment Clause

The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights is not merely a legal document. More clearly, it is a cornerstone of American democracy. While it enshrines the freedom of speech, it also safeguards the practice of one’s beliefs. The Establishment Clause explicitly states that the United States shall not establish a state religion.
